The Situation
European Metals Holdings (ASX: EMH) is an ASX and AIM listed critical minerals company focused on the development of the Cinovec lithium project in the Czech Republic - one of Europe's largest hard rock lithium deposits and a strategically important asset as the global energy transition accelerates. As EMH progressed toward key development milestones, the company needed a stable, reliable finance function it could count on. With a lean internal team managing the demands of a dual-listed company - including ASX compliance obligations, foreign subsidiary reporting, tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions and regular board and investor reporting - the business needed experienced hands to keep the finance engine running smoothly.
The Opportunity
Metric was engaged to act as embedded financial controller for EMH - providing the finance oversight and hands-on execution the business needed without the cost or overhead of a full-time hire. The engagement was structured to cover the full scope of the finance function: from day-to-day financial management and compliance reporting through to board reporting, cash flow oversight and coordination of the finance team.
The Solution
Financial reporting and oversight
Took ownership of the finance function end to end - ensuring financial records were accurate, up to date and decision-ready. Provided the financial controller oversight needed to give management and the board confidence in the numbers underpinning every key decision.
ASX compliance reporting
Managed the quarterly Appendix 5B cash flow reporting and all finance-related ASX compliance obligations - keeping EMH's reporting calendar on track and ensuring the market received accurate, timely financial disclosures as the company progressed through its timeline.
Board reporting
Prepared and presented regular board-level financial reporting - providing directors with clear visibility over the company's financial position and cash runway.
Tax compliance coordination
Coordinated Australian tax compliance obligations - managing the relationship with external tax advisers, ensuring lodgement deadlines were met and that the company's tax position was accurately reflected in its financial records and reporting.
Foreign subsidiary reporting and tax compliance oversight
Managed financial reporting for EMH's UK subsidiary, coordinating with local advisers to ensure statutory reporting obligations were met, intercompany transactions were properly recorded and tax compliance requirements across both jurisdictions were handled in an accurate and timely manner.
Cash flow forecasting and management
Built and maintained rolling cash flow forecasts to give management and the board clear visibility over the company's liquidity position, funding runway and upcoming cash commitments - supporting confident decision-making on expenditure and capital management.
Management of the bookkeeper
Provided day-to-day oversight and direction of the bookkeeper - reviewing work for accuracy, prioritising tasks and ensuring the finance back-office operated smoothly as a foundation for reliable reporting and compliance.
